What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy in which thin, sterile needles are inserted into specific points on the body. It is founded on the idea that the body contains energy, or "Qi," which flows through channels or meridians. When this energy is obstructed or disrupted, it can cause pain, illness, and other health issues. Acupuncture works by stimulating these points and promoting the body's natural healing processes, such as circulation, inflammation reduction, and body balance restoration. It is a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, from chronic pain to stress and anxiety.

Conditions Acupuncturists Treat

Here are some common conditions that acupuncture may be used to treat. Please note that acupuncture is not a substitute for conventional medical care and it's important to consult with a licensed healthcare provider before pursuing acupuncture as a treatment option

  • Back pain, neck pain, and headaches are examples of chronic pain.

  • Anxiety, stress, and depression are all symptoms of anxiety.

  • Insomnia and other types of sleep disorders

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and acid reflux are two examples of digestive problems.

  • Menstrual cramps and other menstrual irregularities

  • Infertility and reproductive health issues

  • Asthma and allergies are examples of respiratory conditions.

  • Addiction and drug abuse

  • Hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases

  • Fatigue and a lack of energy

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Acupuncture is widely regarded as a safe and low-risk treatment option. In fact, many people regard it as a less invasive alternative to more invasive medical procedures. Acupuncturists are highly trained professionals who use sterile, disposable needles and strictly adhere to safety protocols to reduce the risk of infection or injury. Mild side effects such as soreness or bruising at the needle site may occur in some people, but these are typically transient and easily managed. If you have any concerns about the safety of acupuncture, talk to your acupuncturist before starting treatment.

What should I expect during an acupuncture treatment?

You may anticipate lying down on a comfy table for the duration of your acupuncture treatment as an acupuncturist inserts tiny, sterilized needles into certain spots on your body. After the needles are inserted, you might feel a tiny pinch or prick, but most individuals only have a slight discomfort or lack of pain. You will often remain still for 20 to 30 minutes after the needles are placed while they perform their task. It's totally common for some people to experience warmth, heaviness, or tingling near the needle site. Although you might feel refreshed and at ease following the procedure, it's crucial to drink lots of water and get enough of rest so that your body can thoroughly absorb the treatment.
